From Digital Reports to Government Action
BasKaro is more than a platform. It's a movement to make the Indian Government protect its people from racism, wherever they are.
A Disturbing Trend
Anti-Indian sentiment is on the rise globally. In Canada, hate crimes against South Asians rose by 143% between 2019 and 2022.1 Online platforms have seen an explosive increase in racist slurs and conspiracy theories targeting Indians.7 This digital hate is translating into real-world violence and discrimination. In 2023, 86 Indians were reported to have been attacked or murdered abroad.12
Is Enough Being Done?
While the Indian government states that the safety of Indians abroad is a "foremost priority",30 its response is often seen as reactive. Official actions typically follow major incidents, and the government has been accused of not doing enough to proactively counter the hateful narratives that fuel these attacks.19 Data on arrests and convictions is often unavailable, leaving communities feeling vulnerable and unheard.30
"BasKaro." - Enough is Enough.
This is more than just a name. It is a powerful call from Indians worldwide to stop the spread of racism and hate. Our app is a safe place to report these incidents, but our main goal is much bigger.
A Growing Threat We Cannot Ignore
Mocking Indians has become a global sport online, which is now spilling into real-world violence.11 Studies show a huge spike in online hate speech targeting South Asians, with slurs increasing dramatically on platforms like Telegram, Gab, and 4chan.17 This is not just online trolling; it creates a dangerous environment that can lead to discrimination, hostility, and physical attacks.18 This problem is getting worse and shows why we need to act now.
Our Clear Goal: Petitioning for Action
Our goal is simple and direct: we will petition the Indian Government to take this issue seriously. For too long, the problem of anti-Indian racism has been ignored or downplayed in official discussions. BasKaro is changing this. By collecting thousands of incident reports, screenshots, videos, and personal stories, we are building undeniable proof.
We will show the government that this is not a small issue affecting a few people. It is a widespread trend that threatens the safety and dignity of every Indian, at home and abroad.
Every report you submit becomes a piece of evidence. Together, they create a powerful database that proves the scale of the problem and gives us the strength to demand change.
What We Demand from the Indian Government
We are asking the government to launch strong, strategic PR campaigns to fight anti-Indian stereotypes and racism. This is not just about reacting to incidents; it's about being proactive. Governments can use public diplomacy to build trust and improve their country's image. India should use its power as a major democracy to defend its citizens globally.
The government must educate all Indians about the risks of racially motivated hostility. This isn't about creating fear; it's about being prepared. People need to know their rights, how to handle aggressive situations, and where to report hate incidents, both online and in real life.
BasKaro: A Movement for Justice and Dignity.
Our data-driven mission is the catalyst for change. By turning individual stories of pain into a single, powerful argument, we will make sure the call of BasKaro echoes from our community to the halls of government, demanding a safer, more respectful world for every Indian.
